Bombshell: Facebook acquires WhatsApp for $16 billion!

As the old saying goes, "If you can't beat them, join them." Facebook purchased Whatsapp messaging service today for a whopping $16 billion. The massive acquisition is confirmed by a filing from Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
Zuckerberg says the entire Whatsapp team will join Facebook.

The deal includes $4 billion in cash and $12 billion worth of Facebook shares. Whatsapp staff would
also be given an additional $3 billion in restricted stock.
WhatsApp has an incredible growth rate.

Whatsapp is a cross-platform messaging service. It has 450 million monthly users, of which more than 70% are active on a daily basis. The number of users are still increasing by 1 million per day.

Facebook will likely integrate the app's technology into its own Messenger service. According to Whatsapp CEO Jan Koum, who joined Facebook's Board of Directors, Whatsapp will not have ads and will still run independently off Facebook, similar to Instagram.
